Eco-friendly fashion

Businesses don’t come much greener than HTnaturals, the eco-friendly garment company originally known as Hemptown Clothing Inc., which has left the hippie days behind in favour of fashion-forward clothing sewn from fabrics such as soy (a.k.a. “the vegetable cashmere”), organic cotton and, yes, even hemp.

HT’s newest Elements line includes a range of active wear for men and women. Casual clothes, such as the women’s Ocean Park hoodie and coordinating Kerrisdale knit pants, or the men’s Spanish Banks zip hoodie and Langara knit pants, are made from 70-per-cent-bamboo and 30-per-cent-organic-cotton fleece.

But the company’s green ethics permeate more than its clothing. HT adheres to the triple-bottom-line principle of valuing “people, planet, profit.” Company computers are powered by wind, its president drives a carbon-neutral car, and even the coffee brewing in HT’s lunchroom is fair trade and organic.
