Tips for getting an A+ in the three 'back to school' Rs—reducing, reusing and recycling
We were talking with a friend the other night and he mentioned that fall seems to be in the air. It caught me off guard; it’s been a beautiful summer and I’m not ready for autumn, nor back to school. And I’m really not ready for the big consumer push that is happening in all the stores.

Short-term restaurant aims to promote long-term seafood with floating dining room
It seems that I’m not the only one in Vancouver worried about the shortage of fish, though Shannon Ronalds and Chef Robert Clark, the founders of the
School of Fish Foundation, are focused on a more endemic shortage. They established the School of Fish in an effort to mandate sustainable seafood practices (à la
Ocean Wise) as part of the education program for culinary school graduates. (You may think everyone is up to speed on the need for sustainability, but I've met people from Calgary who hadn't even heard of the Ocean Wise program).

We struggle to be Oceanwise, Organic and Local, but the ease of our disposable lifestyle can be harder for some to give up
A couple weekends ago, like many Vancouverites, I was enjoying the overcast but rain-free festivities at the
Dragon Boating Festival. I saw one race and divided the rest of my time between food carts (some of whom
may grace our streets shortly) and the
Rio Tinto Aluminum Chef Competition.

It's 2010, do you know where your obsolete electronics are? Some Vancouver art students have a clue
Art students from BC’s high schools and elementary schools were pitted with the challenge of artistically rendering 30,000 tonnes of e-waste, which is roughly the amount of obsolete computers, monitors, printers and electronics recycled by
BC’s e-waste stewardship program.

Sikh Green Team volunteers were on hand to help at Saturday's Vaisakhi celebrations
Always a wildly colourful event, this year's
Vaisakhi parade and festival emphasized the colour "green." While this weekend's festivities in Surrey saw an estimated 100,000 brave the rain to enjoy flower-adorned floats, thumping bhangra music and buoyant crowds, it was a team of volunteers who helped make sure the festival was not only fun, but ecologically sustainable.
